Are we in the middle of the skunk rut?  I've seen several dead skunks on the road this last week. That's usually a good tell for the deer rut. Dead bucks in the median. It must be the skunk rut! Lol 🦨

Usually figure right about Valentine's Day around here.

Maybe it's the pre-rut ??  The seeking phase.    ;D

The good Lord ain't made a gobbler I can't kill.  I just gotta be there at the right time.....  on the day he wants to die.

A good warm spell after cold will get them on the move too.

normally about mid February into March where I'm at in southern WV but weather does play a part. the closer to late February the better for me because that's getting towards the end of trapping season. actually caught 3 in snares last year and that was a first for me.

Yes, typically around now is when I start catching a bunch of skunks in my coyotes sets. I enjoy skunks, but my wife doesn't when me and the kids get home lol.

Blessed are the peacemakers for they are the children of God.

After trapping them and using skunk based lure for Fisher and Martin I actually think it smells good. Possibly because  subconsciously it triggers good memories.

Pre rut here, just starting.

I always like the smell unless on me. When trapping it meant tomorrow I would have a fox, coyote or cat.

Pulled in the driveway last night and found out our dog had tackled one. Just getting the 3 of us from my truck to the back door was not good. We always have them hanging around this time of the year, and Ol Rowdy has to find out the hard way about the skunks.

Tecnu poison oak/ivy treatment will take the skunk smell right of your dog. I used it on my dog about a year ago. She got sprayed right in the side of the face. A little tecnu and some warm water and she was allowed back in the house again by people with a more delicate sense of smell than I.

For some reason there are very few seen anymore in S/W Florida.  They seem to have disappeared.  Racoons and hogs the biggest egg eaters now.
