So, you're looking for a used (collectible ?) call.....

Which do you prefer ?

A "new in the package" call that's been on a shelf for 40 or 50 or 60 years ??

A nice, mostly spotless call with no box or packaging ?

A totally functional, but field-worn call that may have a name or initials or notches, etc ??

Just curious.

From a collector standpoint I would want in the package perfect condition.

Sound takes the # 1 priority  in my mind...

Shamelessly,  I don't care about the looks, but you can bet the bank, I'll buy it, IF it has the sound (s), I'm looking for... A reasonable price is also factored in...

You & I think alike, when it come to turkey talk...

Great question. I could care less if it's still in the package. I buy a call because I may hunt it if it gives me the sound I'm looking for and I want to run that call as much as I want to make that decision. I do want the call to be in very good condition though.

It has to be in good condition
Packaging doesn't mean much to me cause at some point I will hunt with it
BUT most of all.... it has to be all turkey

I will take the easy way out and say, "depends on the call."

It's all about sound for me.

I don't own a call that I won't occasionally take out and hunt (even my Cost box under the right conditions).  That is part of the joy of ownership for me.  Therefore, I vote for sound, condition and provenance over packaging.  If I were a true collector, I might answer differently.

I buy calls to hunt.  Sound 1st and looks 2nd for me.

What bbcoach said.  I'm not collecting to sell, invest or just look at.  I want to hunt my calls and they have to sound good.

X2 ... It all depends on the call and the call maker ... Sound / Tone / looks / condition etc ...

For a custom collectible call, I like having the paperwork that came with the call, be it a pamphlet, note, letter or even business card.
