I got a text this evening from a gentleman who I had talked to about building me a trumpet.  He's ready.

A few years back, I was gifted a piece of walnut out of the shop of a dear old friend of mine.  He's been gone for 20 years.  He was a MASTER longrifle builder.

I decided to have this very sentimental board (about the size of a shotgun stock blank) from a master's shop go into the hands of master turkey call builders.  So far I have a pair of Cost-style old hen boxes and a trumpet that have been made from this wood.

Tomorrow..... the last piece goes in the mail !!!

I am excited to see what you receive back in the mail!

Awesome! Lot of the fun is seeing the blank and then what comes from it. Glad to see the piece being put to good use!

However it turns out, it will be a cherished call with a great history and meaning...

The blank in the pic is not big enough for any standard box call design, unless it was a "pocket box" of sorts.

This blank and one of identical dimensions were returned to my by the box call maker with my pair of calls.  He said that they "weren't big enough to make boxes, but you can get a trumpet out of them".

Now that I look at it closer it doesn't seem to be wide enough for a hen box, plus the fact you posted in the trumpet/wingbone forum should have turned the lights on for me but I'm a little slow sometimes.

As long as it's just "sometimes", you're doin' better than me.    ;D
