Happy's Post Season Recap
May 25, 2024, 08:51:25 PM
I didn't do a hunt log this year for a few reasons. 1st of all, turkey hunting is a pretty personal sport to me, and I don't like getting into details or number of turkeys killed, etc. I enjoy a good turkey story as well as anybody, but when I tell one, I always fear that it comes off as bragging, and that is the last thing I want. I will, however, give a general recap of the season.
This year, I really only had a few basic goals. Kill some turkeys, hunt with my boy as much as possible, get him a turkey, and get my buddy a gobbler. My final goal was to carry a tag and hunt till the end of our season. I can say all of those goals were met. This was a little more difficult season for me, I had a good bit of time to be hunting, but it seemed like there was always something work related or family related that kept me off balance and I never really settled into pocket so to speak. As far as the results went, they were pretty close to normal, but I did leave 2 gobblers on the table that I should have killed. I just guess all the nights of 3 hours of sleep just caught up to me, and I just got sloppy. On the bright side, I spent a lot of time hunting with my boy, and I can honestly say I was pretty impressed by how quickly he is improving. His movement through the woods is much better. His situational awareness was downright impressive, and he did a great job moving with gobblers as they approached and getting his shot. If things continue, he is gonna be a serious menace to the critters. I also got roam a bit and hunt some new ground and learn a few things. Another bonus was getting to stop and have lunch with another GOAT that I hadn't seen in a while. All in all, it was a fun season, and I am sad to see it go. It needed to end, or I was going to run myself to death trying to keep up. Here are a few pictures that kind show the special parts of spring turkey season that I love. Good luck to all. Congrats to all teams and team members who were successful this year. and I hope everyone stays safe and has a great 2024. I am already thinking about spring 2025.

You had a good season Happy. It's ok to say I'm the one you met up with. Sorry we didn't hook up for more than a lunch. I hoped to help you out a little more in that new turf. That area is really changed from the days I hunted it hard. Now it's heavy pressure and way less birds, you done well finding birds to hunt. Hopefully we'll get together and hunt next year. It seems a lot of good turkey hunters had tough seasons. While some just got out of their vehicles and gobblers ran up to them and volunteered to be shot. That's turkey hunting.

Good recap and pictures, Nick. Sounds like you accomplished the goals you set. One other goal you did not mention is that you carried some of us old GOATS along in the "trash talking" department with the other teams. I, personally, got a lot of good laughs out of that. Let's face it...that is one of the most important goals we have on this team, and you succeeded admirably in that regard.

We will definitely make up for it next year, Dana. Was nice meeting your partner in crime as well. I could listen to him tell stories all evening. You helped immensely, and I had a blast. Jim, you had a great spring, and it was fun checking in and seeing what you were into. The preseason and text thread we have going is what makes it for me. I really don't care about the results. To be honest, I don't even know where we stand in scores cause I haven't checked and don't care.

Nice going Happy, beautiful pictures and congratulations on all your successes. And, I should say, if that's your boy, his mother must be gorgeous.
I agree with Gobblenutjob, you handled the trash talk with grace, sophistication and a style all your own. It was indeed funny, thought provoking and admirable, kinda. 🤔

Thanks fellows, glad to see you both had a successful season as well. I am just catching up on the team threads this evening, but hopefully, everyone had a stellar year. And yes, that's my boy. His momma is way better looking. She is a high school volleyball coach and still looks like a college volleyball player. I know I am good-looking, but I still married up with her.

Nice season Nick. The highlight of my seasons are always when I get to call one in for my pops. Extra special this year because I haven't been in the woods with him since he got the covid early in the pandemic. Getting out with your boy has too be the highlight of your season. I tried the hunt log but it got to be a chore with my hunt and peck style of typing. I'm better on the laptop but mine went down this spring so it was even more of a chore on my phone plus my spelling aint not so good. Have a great summer and get that boy on some more fish!!!
