Gobbling on the Roost next week in Putnam County, Georgia
March 29, 2024, 09:03:04 AM
So headed to Georgia next Wednesday for an annual hunt on my brother's lease in Putnam County.
The weather at the moment is projected to be in the low to mid 40's in the morning. Partly sunny all day, highs mid 60's with winds light and variable all day.
The land gets little to no pressure on the birds as it's primarily a deer focus. The past two years we've taken a bird each year in late afternoon.
My question is how much do you think the lower morning temps will affect gobbling on the roost?

I just looked at the forecast, I don't think that low of 45 will be until after nightfall.
Looks like rain for Wednesday morning and then clearing off.
I would "guess" that the birds will gobble better Thursday morning

I personally do better with old Mr. Tom on the cooler days.

It was 42 this morning in southern Illinois and they were fired up.

No effect. They'll gobble if they feel like gobbling.

They'll keep gobbling until you make 'em quiet - at least that's what I'm hoping for next week!!

Turkeys gobble harder on cold/cooler mornings.
Give me a 40 degree morning anywhere in the country and I'll have a grin on my face when I get out of the truck.

A lot of the gobblers I have killed was mornings below freezing, which is what I prefer and why I usually rarely travel south. Love cool weather. Would prefer an overcast drizzle day with no fog. Seems they gobble all day with that. Good luck!
