Just wondering these are worth buying for my Grandson's 410

I'm not sure that is true TSS (the density seems off - should be around 18 not 12).  If I'm seeing the box correctly the load is 1/2 oz of #5 shot (box shows #5) or maybe #7 (order chart).  Seems pretty minimal for turkey.  Also if that is a box of 25 that's dirt cheap for actual TSS.  A box of 10 Apex Ninja or Foxtrot with shipping is around that price .Wait for more comments someone here will know.  Might be ok but highly doubt it.  Good luck

ADD - Looking around the net I'm afraid some manufacturers are trying to be price competitive by any means possible.  There are several pellet count charts floating around.  One shows a half once of #5 is only 56 pellets.  #7 only 90 and that may be for 18 density.  Both Apex and Foxtrot are making 18 density 7/8 oz .410 in 9 1/2 size shot.  Apex says that's 403 pellets.  The last thing you want is for the grandson to watch a turkey run off after the shot.  It appears Winchester is also attempting to get into the 410 game with a cheap 7 1/2 size shot but it isn't TSS.  Some forum had a long discussion on it.  Again good luck.

Hevi Shot XII is not TSS. My state regs say with anything less than a 20 gauge it must be TSS shot at 18g/cc. This shot does not meet that standard. Not saying you cant use it where you are, just saying it is a pretty light load for a tough bird. I wouldnt use anything less than a .410 mag load of 9/9.5. I think the true .410 guys can give you the best group of ammo/chokes to sight in with. Good luck to your grandson. Z

I would pass and find some TSS (18 gm/cc).  This offering is from Hevi shot and is rated at (12 g/cc, slightly higher density of lead)).  I shoot the Hevis in my 12 gauge in 3 1/2 inch load of 2 1/4 oz.  Fifteen years ago, the Hevi shot was the bomb in 12 gauges with high pellet counts and it hit harder than lead. The .410 and 20 gauge wasn't even talked about then.  Stick with TSS only in the .410 and make sure you limit the shot to close range, which will probably be 20 yards and in.

Just received this from Rogers, check out their .410 TSS offerings.  Their prices are normally pretty good.

The big problem with these $8 to $10 dollar a piece shells is that many are reluctant to pattern them sufficiently.  Just me but with a box of ten I'd start out centering the pattern with some AA target loads (readily available ) first to get the red dot or whatever sight you're using close.  After that double check with at least two of the hunting loads.  I do all my .410 stuff at 25 yards.  I use a decoy that will be placed 25 paces from my sitting spot.  Works out for me.  Scrimping on .410 ammo a disservice to the big birds.  Good luck.

Well dand I  already paid for a box. Oh well not sure if I will ever use them now.  And up the creek without a paddle  as I don't have any 410 TSS for my Grandson's 410 and supposed to take him the second week of April.

I give you credit for asking.  Most would have bought and used them, wounded a bird and wondered what happened?  Plenty of wisdom and knowledge on this site.  Maybe they can be returrned?

Plenty of time to get a box. Foxtrot ammo sells them in a 10 pack and that should be enough for this year. Get it on paper at 25 yards with target ammo and then tweak it with the TSS. Money well spent bro. Z

Exactly.  Call Brice and listen to what he suggests.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

When I saw this post early this morning I checked a few places.  As usual Apex was out of stock on 410.  Didn't check Foxtrot.  Bass Pro on line showed some varieties of 18d.  Friend went to Ft  Myers FL Bass Pro and found some Federal TSS   Federal isn't the forum favorite but is acceptable. The Stevens 301 was supposedly designed for it.  Shop around you'll find some.

Rogers has all the 410 TSS ammo you need. Just looked today and they had 4 brands I believe. Hope you get some.

If Rogers doesn't there is a ton on Gunbroker.com.
Hevi does make a Hevi 18 in both #7 and #9.  Several years ago the old white Hevi 13 with the rolled crimp was the best I ever used.  Of course they quit making it for some reason.  I still have one shell in 12 ga.
