2 3/4" TSS?

Probably a stupid question but, how much less recoil is there in the 2 3/4" vs 3" tss turkey loads? Most have 1/4 ounce less shot with about the same velocity. I'm trying a scope this year and trying to not get scope brow.

I can't help with the TSS shells, but I have been shooting 2 3/4" Boss Bismuth shells at Geese and there is a world of difference in recoil over the 3's and 3 1/2" shells. And they knock them out of the sky with amazing efficiency.

Length doesn't matter, it is velocity and payload.
1 3/4oz will have less felt recoil than 2oz given the same velocity.

Thanks, I knew he had a chart for rifles. I'm looking for 20 gauge TSS 1 5/8 vs 1 3/8.  Looking at the 12 ga loads on Chuck's chart, there seems to be a big difference from 1 7/8, 1 1/2, 1 1/4.

If your scope has a long eye relief like 6" then you should never get scoped.

Foxtrot 2 3/4 1 5/8th oz shot mini twister in 12ga, Herters in 20 has 1.5 oz and federal has a 1 1/8th oz load.

I've got an old 3x leupold that I'm trying now. But I'm looking at their 1-4 power with 6" eye relief. Any other scopes with around 6" of telief?

IMO the old Simmons Pro Diamond scopes from the mid 90s were the best turkey scopes ever. Particularly the 2x version. Plenty of eye relief, compact and absolutely bulletproof.

I always liked Leopold turkey 2-7 and Nikon turkey scopes. I have a few of them still on a couple turkey guns. I set up different guns for different landscapes and chose the gun set up per landscape im hunting. Scopes for more open timber/field terrain rifle sights thick cover terrain and rainy days. Reflex sights for nice weather days and thicker landscape. Rain and red dots have not been a good combination for me.

I load pretty much all of my TSS to 2 3/4. Because some of my buddies shoot semi auto and I don't want anyone to have issues because some guns are finicky.
I load all 1 1/4, 1 7/16 1 5/8 and 2 ounces in 2 3/4 hull. I trim down the 3 inchers. I shoot Mr Hal's and Mr Ronnie's recipes.
Definitely big difference in smaller/larger payloads.
I have a kids load that I am going to try 1 ounce. Originally a duck load but I want to see what it will do. I will keep you posted

Personally, I don't think you have too much to worry about with the 20 shooting a 2 3/4-inch TSS shell.  Add a good recoil pad and the scope of your choice with a 3-inch eye relief or more and you should be good to go.  Many companies are offering 2 3/4-inch TSS from 1 1/8 to 1 5/8 loads starting at 1000 FPS.  As mentioned, FPS, load weight and how heavy the gun is will affect felt recoil.  Just remember, lighter recoil will correlate to less down range velocity and penetration.  Most TSS 20-gauge loads should get a good killing pattern out to 40 but only range time will determine that.

Federal markets their 20 gauge 2-3/4" TSS as "Reduced Recoil".
Might give them a look.

I still have one on a back up gun - best bang for the buck ever. Mine is as good as the day I bought it, and it is never has lost its zero even once in all the years I have used it. And that gun and scope has been drug up and down every mtn ridge I could find. Bought it I think in either 1992 or 1993. They have incredible eye relief. Nothing fancy, but they just worked and never had to worry about them.
