Trumpets from Osage fence posts on my farm

I have had a few guys build me trumpets made of Osage or Bodack that came from old fence posts I found on my family farm. I thought I would share pictures of them all.

I have some pieces that I dug up from under the ground and they have a nice green tint to them but I don't think the were wet enough to get the full mud cured look.

Hope you enjoy. I am still waiting on a couple of others.
I can't wait to kill a gobbler there with one of the calls

Great looking calls and super piece of history.

I ruined a brand new 10 inch radial arm saw blade cutting up all the pieces. There were nails in the wood that were impossible to pull out. I bet only 25% of the wood was usable because of the holes and rot that had taken over.

I was hoping to find a piece that Marlin could use as a lid for a long box but the grain was never right.

John Sinclair is making me a pot call but he had to laminate 2 pieces together due to the size of the wood.

Cool looking wood. Should make some great calls. The nails suck for sure.  Good luck with the rest

I like Osage for a caller .... The ones you have are really nice ....

The good Lord ain't made a gobbler I can't kill.  I just gotta be there at the right time.....  on the day he wants to die.

Congrats on some memorable osage fence pot callers! Osage always makes an excellent caller!

Not sure if this is a dumb question but how can tell if the post is osage, I have a lot of old post on my place and my camp?

Make a cut with a saw deep enough to get fresh shavings.  Osage sawdust is bright orange. Mulberry chips are also orange, but mulberry is seldom used for fence posts as it's nowhere near as durable as Osage.
