I have some hevi shot 3 1/2 2 1/4oz. 7's for my new 835 with a 20 inch barrel. My question is for the guys that have shot both IC .675 and pure gold .670 chokes what one put up better 10" numbers at 40 yards

Both are good chokes.  I will tell you what the best I have got with mine since I have owned both.  your mileage may vary.  This was from shooting the same type loads of Hevi-13 3.5" 2.25oz #7's but the lot #'s were different.  The best I ever got with the Indian Creek .675 BDS choke was 297 shot in a 10".  With the Pure Gold .670 I have shot 357 shot in a 10".  Now these were both at a taped 40yds.  On that same Pure Gold pattern, I obtained a total of 573 shot inside the 20".  It don't get much better than that with those loads.  But I will be the first to admit that the Pure Gold won't shoot nowhere near that good consistently.  The Star Dot .676 choke has been the best shooting choke for consistency with these loads.  But some of the inconsistencies can be blamed on the actual shells in my opinion.  But they still shoot a lot better than most loads.  That why I still shoot them.

I'll show you why I'm a Star Dot man when it comes to the 835.  Now I will tell you firsthand that not all will shoot this good, but I have obtained more denser patterns with the Star Dot than any other choke for my 835.  But I haven't shot a lot of loads out of the Pure Gold for I just got it around turkey season of this year.

ILIKEHEVI-13's post tells it all and with great pics. I am jealous, because I don't have a stardot. Either choke you mentioned should/will be hell on birds within any sane range and most likely at some insane ranges as well.

Hey thanks.  But your right both will get the job done very easily with these loads.  I found another good one with the Star Dot that I'll post.

I need to try some #7's. I currently shoot a IC .675 and hevi 13 # 6 2.25oz load. I never shot a pattern worse the the low 200's. Most of my groups are 220 - 235.

the best the pg .670 did was 220's with most being right at 200 if my memory serves. I can't find my pure gold targets. Found a few of the better IC targets in the garage. Not all 835's shoot the same, but I have found they are one of the more consistantly easy guns to get performance out of.

Beagled..out of curiosity was that this years load or one from 2010?  That's the same set up I used this year and didn't get the results I was looking for on paper.   I didn't try one from last year while patterning..never thought about the differences from year to year.  I managed about 257 I think,  got frustrated and quit with it..did kill 4 nice gobblers though.

I never could get very good patterns out of the Hevi-13 6's although the Star Dot with the 3" loads shoot around 190.   But I now have found a choke that will shoot the 3.5" Hevi-13 6 loads.  This was the first shot and only shot from this MAD Max .680 choke.  But it looks to be promising if I ever want to start shooting 6's again.  I bought 2 boxes of them after shooting this one.

That looks better then what i am doing now. Been thinking about trying something between the IC and the jellyhead. Was going to find or borrow a used kick's, but might have to buy a mad max. I like shooting 6's out of my twelve. IMHO thinks it carries a little better down range, but the 7 pellet counts are so high. Theres got to be something to the 7's alot of folks love them. I have just had good luck with the 6's so I'm recluctant to change.

We make this so much harder then it has to be. The turkey could care less. I took a friend out one morning this year shooting a gun that had never been patterned and he bought the shells on the way up to the camp. I offered him my gun, but he stayed with what he brought. We called in a nice bird to about 35 yards. He crushed it. I've since played with his gun, and that about as far as it needs to shoot with his current choice of shells.

Ninja, look at it like this.  Many people, including myself love the nitro triplex loads...4x5x7.  Shoot one and look at the hits..lits of small one and a few bigger ones.  That tells me that the 7s in those loads are doing the work.  If so, then why not shoot straight 7s?  It would be cheaper to shoot the hevi 13 loads and. He number difference isn't enough to care about 40...prolly 5..yards and in.

I shot 368 with nitros in a 10" circle..didn't count the 20, but only had 522 hits total on a big sheet of cardboard.  Something odd there to me.  With the hevi 13 loads I can consisteently get 550+ in a 20" circle.  There again the hevi 7s work out good.

Another scenario ; you get 225-250 with the 6s and you get 300-325 with 7s..yea the 6s are larger and may hit harder, but I would think if I could get more pellets slightly smaller in him that I would do the same damage, given both travel the same speed .  Kinda like going to war with 200 soldiers that are awesome  vs going to war with 350 soldiers that are really good.

Its really a toss up.  I want everything I can get going at him if I happen to get a chance.   The 7s are proven in both the hevi and nitro loads and pattern well.  The 6s have always been a tough competitor in the turkey woods.  I just like the higher numbers..personal preferance is all.  I have toted a many out due to 6s tho.

A good thing is that we have a site like this to ask questions and get visual answers.  Many good combos on here for prolly all the major guns/shells/choke out there.   Im sure results will vary some for each person due to the obvious reasons, but you can get a good idea of where to start.  If I wasn't loading tss I prolly would go with the hevi 7s out of my 835s.

I don't have a hevi 6, but if I can round one up locally I will try one in my 682 and see what it does.

I will try the 7's one day in the near future. I only have 1 #6 left in my box. Think I will go out the next weekend I don't fish and play with the turkey guns some more. I have no doubt the 7's will get the job done, in fact I have been looking to put together a 20 gauge and was planning on starting with the Hevi #7's. I like the idea of getting better 20' numbers then I am currently getting, but have had zero issue's will hunting. This past year I killed 2 birds between 40 - 45 yards the rest were much closer. I really can't remember the last time I killed one past 40 yards other then those two. We hunt mostly planted pine and small food plots in hilly terrain, so my shots tend to be close. I'll start a new thread.

Truly enjoy the advise I get here. Not many of my friends turkey hunt, and it's hard to find folks that are into as much as I am down here. When I bring up turkeys to my deer hunting friends or fishing buddies they look at me like somethings wrong.

Since the original poster mentioned Indian Creek, I dug this one up.  This was the .675 BDS stainless steel version.  There was 297 shot in the 10".
