Wood Classification

Instead of labeling a specific sound with a specific wood, could somebody list the domestic/exotic woods according to their density?

Even with all the discrepancies in sounds, it can be said that a harder, denser wood will be higher pitch than a softer, less dense wood. Although there a discrepancies within this category based on grain structure, I think it would be very helpful to at least classify the popular woods into a "density" category.

For convenience, it would be great if you guys could list the woods as follows:

1. Most Dense (loudest):
2. Medium Density:
3. Least Dense (softest):

Sorry for beating a dead horse- I'm just trying to figure this callmaking thing out!

Do a websearch for "Janka hardness scale".  This is the method used for rating wood "hardness".  They take a ball bearing (forgot the diameter) and push it into the wood.  The scale rates how many pounds of pressure it takes to push the ball bearing a given depth into the wood.  The higher the number, the harder the wood.  Hope this helps.
