Figured y'all would find this interesting.  wildlife biologist goes on Matt Rinella (Steve Rinella brother) podcast to talk turkey.

Guy hit the nail on the head with a lot of points. Only disappointing part in my opinion is Matt doesn't give the guy enough time to talk and instead tried to control conversation. Other than that pretty good.

Howieg

Interesting, yes,....ironic and hypocritical, absolutely,...and on multiple fronts.
Quick summary (my assessment): Like most discussions among hunters, everybody has an opinion (and we all know the cliche about that).  Seems like everybody wants to complain, but when it comes to solutions, nobody wants their personal interests to be impacted. Same ol', same ol'....

I must be the minority. I'd rather see my state go to a 1 spring bird limit and a draw system for non residents with a limited number of spots for them or close the spring season for a few years and leave the fall season how it is and see what happens. I'd guarantee that our poult and overall turkey numbers would dramatically increase, in say, 3 years. I feel that my state is way too liberal on the spring season and then tries to crack on the fall season because the commission members don't fall hunt. You can't have common sense and think that the taking of 1,200 turkey during the fall season,  spanning from September to January, if you count archery season, has a greater impact than the taking of 33k breeding males during the 3 week spring season.

Matt Rinella and his anonymous guest, one of our fellow posters I'm certain, remind me of Don Quixote's quest.

I too yearn for the good ole days when, to paraphrase Matt Rinella, "you had a quiet community of turkey hunters who hunted just because they loved it. They didn't do it to develop a public persona."

I totally understand and can get behind the ethic and philosophy of "hunt quietly."

Nostalgia aside, we share this planet with almost 8 billion other people. More everyday. Never before have so many attained such wealth, had so much leisure time, or the transportation means to efficiently visit places few of our grandparents ever conceived of visiting.

We can engage in cancel culture, but as long these conditions exist and we're afforded these opportunities in a prosperous, free market economy, expect social media "influencers" to continue to proliferate. We're in the midst of the "gold rush."  Expect demand for turkey hunting, at the same time as turkey populations face headwinds, to outpace supply. The market and other limitations will eventually sort this out. And, it won't be a pretty sight. States are and will continue to be forced to react, likely continuing to limit hunting opportunity. But there's no turning back...
