Hey everyone. I'll be running a fast fire 4 this year. Looking for any tips and tricks with running them. Anything from covers and protectors to ways to remind yourself to turn it on before sitting down.

Also where does everyone prefer placing the red dot on the gun. Forward towards the barrel or on the ribs to far back like a speed bead set up? I have mine set up directly above the slot the shells will eject from.

I use a different style of red dot, but I turn mine on when I get out of the truck and don't turn it off until I stop hunting. As for placement, mine is same as yours. Never moved it to se if I liked it in a different place.

If drilling and tapping receiver, mounted as far back on the flat part of the receiver as it will go.

I like the Dream Plastics rubber covers available on Amazon for my FF3's....not sure that they have one available for the FF4 yet.

I mounted mine further up, but think it's just preference. I also turn on when leaving the truck. Be careful when screwing in the cap for the battery. It can get a little wonky(if that's a word). I really like mine. I have it on an 835 12g and a 20g SA20. No concerns in 2 years except for the battery cap on one. Good luck

RED NECK

I have purchased 3 warbird protectors for some of my red dots, and I know Sumtoy also has some protectors as well. I always carry extra batteries on me,I haven't needed any in the field yet but that is my biggest concern with a red dot, I am not forgetful now but as I get older we all can get "sometimers"

Sometimes we remember and sometimes we forget.

+1 on the positioning. It isn't a conventional scope.

I've always had a concern about my battery going Belly up as well.  But here's a little food for thought.  Most Red dots can run up to 50,000 hours on lower settings.  Most companies say 4 to 5 years on 1 battery.  You could actually leave your Dot on 24 hours a day for 365 days and only go through 8,760 hours.  If you hunt for 60 days and leave your Dot on ALL the time, that would be 1440 hours.  If you're like me, you replace yours every spring and then throw it away, so we shouldn't give it a SECOND thought!

Carry an extra battery in your vest. It's not heavy. Check your red dot throughout the day.

Regarding batteries going dead, most red dots have auto shut off after a certain number of hrs. I want to say eight. So forgetting to shut them off won't appreciably effect battery life.
When the battery does go dead, before that happens, the dot flashes on and off at intervals for, if I recall correctly, four hrs. So it's not like you'll suddenly pick your gun up and there will be no dot. While the dot flashes, it's still functional. You can still shoot with it.
I carry a spare battery in the field and the screwdriver that comes with the sight. Easy to carry and a good failsafe for the unlikely.
I get a full five week spring season and at least three days of a seven day fall season out of one battery.

Just put a fresh battery in every spring and carry the one you just took put as your spare. My red dot is placed at about the same place as I would put scope.
