More than once I've had a call maker ask that the wood I send for a trumpet be straight-grained. Never had any problems with wood I send to people. Recently I contacted a call maker about making me a trumpet out of BR (Brazilian Rosewood). He wants it to be straight-grained. I have about 5 different blanks of BR and none of it has straight grain running the entire length of the blank. TBH I've never seen BR with straight grain. Actually the wavy grain of BR is one reason it's highly sought after. So is the term straight-grained relative to the wood being worked with?
