Picked up a SA-28 compact 23" last week for the boys to hunt with but its looking like i will be carrying it too....

Always have loved the 28 gauge but hated to carry my A400 28 too much because it is such a nice gun and turkey hunting tends to abuse a gun, at least for me...

some Break in shots with 3 different 28GA loads

Few more shots.  These are all with Carlson .520

Looks like a killer to me

Spring Creek Calls

I really enjoy mine and it's proven it's self in the killin' department.

Shot a few more with an Indian Creek .520

That's great patterns!!! Definitely ain't nothing to sneeze at. I squeaked out 340 with 1.5 ounces of 9s, a Foxtrot ammo load. Especially when I was shooting a factory full choke.

Have a good one, Bo

This is my second 28 to set up but they both are shooters. I really like the 28 gauge

So what is the final hunting combo gonna be?

Ranger007

Going to run the Indian Creek .520 and either the 1 1/2 oz or 1 5/8 oz hand load 9's.  Have a few of each in my vest whatever ones I grab that morning.

Any new 28"s I load will be the 1 1/2oz load for this gun, the 1 5/8 oz shoots great but I would say its at the point of "diminishing return"

I have looked at patterns and patterning vids until I am blue in the face!

This plain brown butcher paper with your stencil and 10/20" circles with quadrants SHOULD be the standard for anyone doing a pattern test!

It hits necessary requirements:
-large clean fresh paper to identify the entire pattern
-10" and 20" circles show how tight it is
-quadrants show density and uniformity
- focus is on the pattern, not the number of hits in the vitals!

Thank you very much!

Thanks. When i first started reloading TSS  years ago I was the same way. There were so many different ways it was done at different distances, circles, squares, etc....

I had to find a way for me to "standardize" my shots at least for my records.

I go through a few rolls of that contractor paper in a year between turkey and duck loads, chokes, guns, buddy's new guns. I get a 140 foot x 36" roll for about $13, I have a Plexiglass 10-20" ring and a 30" ring for duck loads, white spray paint and a good sharpie. Makes them all as close as possible and quick and easy to look back on pics to remember what gun, choke, load combo was shooting.

where you get stencil or you make it?

Those patterns are all good, but I especially like the last you posted with the IC.

Who needs a 20 when you have a 28 gauge shooting like that?

I made it from cardboard just out line and cut out with razor knife from a printed turkey target. Can use it over and over with just a can of spray paint
