I am currently running a good many DP traps (little over 60), here in south AL the ants get into my traps nearly instantly eating the food and is a huge pain when running traps. Im sure it doesn't help the trapping aspect either. I was curious if anyone had any tricks up their sleeves to keep ants out of my bait/ off my traps?

I heard someone talk a while back about how insects don't like ashes from a fire. Maybe sprinkle some ashes around your traps. Won't hurt to try.

Use shelled corn. Shouldn't bring ants. Way to go for working on the coon. Turkeys need more trappers period.

I'm using cat food and dripping some bottled salmon oil in and around the trap and I haven't had any issues. I used canned salmon last year and I had ant problems.

Running just cat food and marshmallows the ants are a problem down here. Probably our sandy soil I guess

I've heard of people putting a golf ball on top of the trap to keep mice out. Coons can move them easy. May be an option for the ants as well

I cant use marshmallows when its warm with ants out.  They love sweets.  I just go straight dry cat food then.

PEPPERHEAD

Try using shelled corn. Don't fill the trap all the way up. Just cover the trigger. Spray a little bit of liquid smoke around the trap. Coons love it and it won't attract ants.

Lucky Goose

Shelled corn and a spritz of fish oil, CLEAN, cheap and easy too.

I've been trapping for a while and have found when using bait like marshmallow and other sweets attracting ants is pretty much inevitable.

I just happened to be at Bass Pro one day and saw they had some. I was looking for crawfish oil but they didn't have any. You can order it from various places online.
