Just picked up some TSS to try and wondering why it's so expensive. Is it a supply & demand thing or the tungsten being used? Also what choke do you recommend for TSS?

Tngsten is pricey, 40-50 dollars per pound.  12ga in general uses too much shot. The patterns you can get with 1 5/8th oz of shot are crazy.

Foxtrot loads a 1 5/8th oz 12ga, if I shot 12 I would buy or load something along those lines.

I shoot 1 5/8th from my 20 but have a load recipe for 1 1/4 I need to test.

If I was hunting a 12, agree, I'd be shooting that Foxtrot load.

To OP - I'm running 1 3/8 oz. of straight #8 TSS in my 20 gauge so that Foxtrot 1.5 oz. load would be more than plenty.

I load a 2 oz 2 3/4 load.  It's nasty... Basically the same thing as the twister load from Fox Trot.  I know Brice personally and have hunted with him he's e great guy and he takes the whole turkey load science very serious.

If I shot a 20 gauge, TSS no question. For 12 gauge, I`ve been under the impression that one does not get enough benefit from TSS over more " traditional " loads to warrant the price differential. Is that the current thinking or am I off base on that? Can`t see much of anything shooting any better at 40 yards and in ( my self imposed limit ) than the Hevi13 3", 2oz #6 I`ve used and hopefully have enough of for the rest of my turkey hunting career.

To actually answer one of your questions... I use a Carlsons .660 choke in my 500/535 with #9 Federal TSS.

A 1-5/8 oz load would be all that's needed in a 12 gauge. I shoot a 2-3/4" Foxtrot Mini Twister in my Model 12 thru a .675 choke. I've shot both 8's and 9's in that load and both are devastating at 40 yards.

For the first 80+ years it was a 32" full choke. I had Briley reduce it to 26" and thread the barrel for choke tubes. I now shoot and extended .675 choke. Cool old gun with a ton of family history. Cutting the barrel saved it from years in the gun safe.
