Does the hardness of the wood used to make tube calls have any affect on the sound produced? Or are there too many variables to determine if the wood hardness matters?

outdoors

My experience in buying them , there a air call  so it's mainly the inside of the call the restrictions for the flo of the air ,, inner damentions ..

noisy box call that seems to sound like a flock of juvenile hens pecking their way through a wheat field

The material does make a difference but a LOT less than other calls.... boxes, pots, scratchers whatever. Like outdoors said other things make a bigger difference on a tube.

barry

100% it does!
The hard the wood the crisper the yelps

Agree, woods and hardness does affect the tones. It's just like the different thickness of latex used on a tube, it produces different sounds ...

randywallace

yes, as does the material used at the lip next to the latex.
