Shock Gobble Troubles

Does anyone ever have trouble working a bird after he "shock" gobbles at you?  I feel like I can locate a bird pretty easily but he wont do anything after that.  Cant get him to respond again.  I've tried everything.... aggressive calling, being quite and sitting for hours, moving/repositioning.

Id like to think I'm a pretty good caller but sometimes I question myself.  I'm not a aggressive type of hunter I don't think, so I don't think I'm pressuring them to hard.

I guess the old saying of you have to find one that is "ready" is true but dang I can eat up a day quickly sitting on a "shock" gobble

Any have any tips or tricks for these situations???

Honestly, around here hunting easterns I seldom even try to get a shock gobble. I would rather get a response from a gobbler I can do something with as opposed to just knowing where one is at. That's just me though.

I have much better success killing turkeys I locate with a turkey call opposed to a locater call!  This applies more so after fly down.

I normally let the birds on roost start on their own, otherwise an Owl, Goose or Coyote howl.

Normally I wait and listen for them to gobble on their own predawn/dawn. If that doesn't happen I'll call using a mouth or box call in the hopes of getting one to strike up.
If all else fails I'll reluctantly use an owl or crow call.

I only use a loud box call and loud mouth call to locate and both work well. Only thing is you better be able to sit down and set up quickly in some instances. Happened to me twice this year. Both birds were less than 200 yards away and I barely had time to sit down and get head net on until I was looking at them.

Birds where I hunted were very hard to strike up midday.  Late spring where I hunted. Usually I could walk around every 100 yds calling with a mouth call and strike one up. It was tough this year. Killed 4 but never worked so hard for them.

As said before, if you're going to use a turkey call to locate with, you had better have a plan for an on the spot immediate setup.

Boy is that the truth. I try to remember to look around and pick one before I call.
