Color matter?

New to pot calls and notice there are several different colors of slate.

Does the slate color really matter? What pros/cons are there of each color?

They all carry a different sound. I prefer traditional gray and green. The green tends to play louder, sharper, raspier than the gray. Red, purple, green all play that way compared to traditional gray slate. Search the forum for differences in slate color and you'll see long threads of people discussing the differences between them. To my ear it goes green to red to purple in order of sharpness, loudness with green playing closest to something like gray and purple playing closest to something like glass. Red and purple tend to be absolute screamers.

little something i did when i started messing with colored slates these are all out black cherry which imo is a great wood for calls   not to hard or soft   ,,, and of course the harder the wood the higher pitched the colored slates get and every builders different me i like rasp  me i still like a gray slate but the green is just something i realy like and seems handle moisture little better
