Up here in these mountains I'd call em all the way from Mississippi. 2 days into a week long hunt and have yet to hear a bird. Is spring green up late this year in this area? Looks like dead of winter. Beautiful woods but I'm thinking I may have hit it too early. Any input would be appreciated

I have been hunting that area for 3 consecutive years now, each time the first week of the season.  First year my experience was similar to yours, by the end of the week they were just starting to turn it on.  Second year was a little better and third year was on fire.  It's a roll of the dice with weather in those mountains but when it lines up it can get really good.  Keep at 'em.  You still have plenty of time and a drastic improvement in the weather as the week progresses.

friend of mine's son killed a nice gobbler Saturday morning in the snow near Tazewell. I'll load up a picture later and post it for all to see.

I hunted public ground in the southern part of Augusta County Saturday and Monday. I walked over 12 miles in 2 days and never heard a gobble or a gunshot. I did yelp up a lonely hen but that was it.

Turkeys have been gobbling heavy for over a month now, they are breeding heavy. They will gobble, it's time.

North Western VA has been slow as well, but heard gobbles after the snow Sunday later in the morning. Heard two turkeys a combined 15 times Saturday.

Lucky for me, no work tomorrow, they will gobble tomorrow morning if not heavy rain. Keep after them, they will gobble. If you see sign, they will gobble.

I'm in South Central Va and think birds are a bit late this year . Woods are a little behind too with the funky weather , 80 one day then 40's the next . Seeing plenty birds but gobbling is sparse . Stay at it , the birds are there . Saw four longbeards on a farm late Saturday that were strutting and fighting , went back Sunday morning and nary a peep . Go figure...  My youngest went to our second spot Saturday late morning and found a bird gobbling on his own and was toting him back to the truck in 10 minutes . Just got to find the right bird at the right time. Good luck

Hunted SW Virginia several times.  Heard it was slow this past week from some locals around Ft. Blackmore.
