I am looking to buy a water proof box call when rain is in the forecast. I see that that the Wood Wise Mystic Hen is discontinued so I am looking at the Primos Water board. Please let me know what your thoughts are on regarding a good Water Proof Box.
Thanks

Well... I purchased the Primos Water board Box call and it sounds pretty good. Now my custom box calls can sit in the truck if raining or rain is expected.

I have done that too and a bread bag works well. I personally would rather leave my $200 box calls in the truck if it's raining and not deal with bread bags or zip locks. I'm very happy with the Primos Waterboard.

2 or 3 coats of chalkboard paint on the contact section of the paddle will waterproof any boxcall you wish.

I'd not take a 200 dollar call out in rain either but for sure a good one. Never heard a single "rain proof" call I'd carry but I've never tried the one mentioned

I picked up a Mystic Hen few years back. And to bowguy's point, it didn't sound great. I used green scotchbrite to smooth out the waterproof coating on the paddle, just a very light touch polish to that blackened surface.

I then adjusted the screw a touch, and the little box came to life. Really do not feel ill-equipped if the forecast is rain and I'm toting that Woods Wise box.

Good luck with yours, I've run that particular call and anxious to hear your thoughts.
A quality paddle caller will most run itself.  It just needs someone to carry it around the woods. Yoder409

I agree with you Bow guy with the Weather Proof Box Calls I used in the past. In fact, I tossed three of them in the Garbage. This new weather proof call is very serviceable.

Somewhere around here, I have a rain proof box by Hally Caller.  That call spit feathers.......just the same as all the other Hally Caller boxes. They were a small company out of eastern PA.  Out of business for over a decade, so eBay would be your best chance.

I have a Primos Wet Box...  Sounds OK...  Not nearly as good as other box calls I have.

It only goes in the vest when it rains...  It is loud, and the only reason I carry it, is if I feel like I really want some volume...  Rainy days, I fall back to the mouth call 99% of the time.

I have tried putting box calls in bags, and to my ear they do not sound as well, and water still gets in...  (I am sure others have had more success).
Did I do that?

I Bought a Waterproof Box 10 or so years ago from Tru Tone Custom calls at a trade show. I gave it to my best friend to get him into turkey hunting and it is still his favorite box call.

Penns Woods game calls used to make a waterproof box call called the Waterproof Wizard.  I have one and it sounds pretty good and is definitely waterproof.  I do not believe that company is still in business but you may be able to find one on line somewhere.

These show up on eBay with some regularity.     Yep.
