Pattern out of my 10 bore at 30 yds. 90grs FF, nitro card 1 7/8 oz #6 shot , overshot card and olive oil soaked fiber wad. Think that's pretty good for no choke.

Nice, that will do it,

Whose gun are you shooting

Remturkey

Not bad at all.  Did you try any other load combinations?

I'd tried six different combos and this was the best. Have a custom fowler being built so not willing to put a ton of effort into this gun. Especially when it produced such a good pattern so quickly.

Have no idea. I picked it up at a local antique shop

That is a nice 30yd pattern for a cyl. bore gun

are you saying your loading your oil/fiber wad over top of o/s card,
is this the "skychief" wad sequence load?

I loaded some of those skychief loads in an cyl. bore black powder shotshell gun, it did improve pattern density compared to normal wad sequence, but it's been several years ago and I don't remember offhand what his load was

Cool, you do have a center core pattern going on.
"
is this pattern a noticeable improvement from patterns with the "standard" wad sequence in this gun

I only did one "traditional " load and wouldn't have even thought of shooting it at 30 yds.

I'm working with an old antq. with a Charleville barrel, but it feels like someone may have jug choked it

going to try the skychief in it but if it is jug choked that may interfere with it.

the left  barrel of that sxs is light modified and the skychief load was a little worse than normal.
But, He flat out states it's for cyl bore and may or may not improve patterns in barrels with choke

reflexl

Really nice from a cylinder bore gun. I am waiting on a guy to bring me a pre-civil war flintlock fowling piece. If it is shootable it is going hunting.

I have fiber wads soaking in olive oil, going to shoot some tomorrow.

back forty, have you tried patterns with #5 or #4 shot to see if you got a tighter center core.

I'd try a some patterns dropping down to 802f and bump your shot up to 2 1/8oz.
I would bet you get past 35yds

I've got a custom 62 fowler being built for me as we speak so don't think I'll dedicate much more time to this one. I've got a buddy that wants it I'll tell him to give it a shot.
