Benelli Ultra light

Bought me an Ultra light last week. Excited with how light it is, but not sure it'll be great in the turkey woods. Bolt is shiny as they come. Haven't gotten the chance to pattern it yet. Was considering a kicks 570 or the Trulock 585. Grabbed a box of federal tss 9s.

Never would have considered that particular gun for a turkey gun. After seeing what Dave did to his I think its a fantastic option. Im sure it would be well north of 2k. Better option then the custom shop turkey I suppose.

There are some redeeming features about the ultralight but I just took a Benelli M2 compact and cut the 24" barrel down to 19".  It is now under 5lbs which is lighter than the 5.2 lb ultralight.  I prefer the one piece receiver of the M2, especially if you're going to drill and tap for a red dot.

In terms of shells, you will be hard pressed to get the best patterns out of the federal load.

I would be patterning Apex, TSSshot and Foxtrot ammunition to get the optimal performance.

Im also unsure why so many guys want to experiment with .570-.585 choke constrictions in the 20 ga.  I'd much rather have a tighter pattern that either kills the turkey or misses the turkey than possibly spray a gobbler with the edge of a 24" pattern from a .585.  Different strokes for different folks, though.

If you're averse to ultratight patterns I'd be looking at the .562 constriction.

If you're averse to ultratight patterns I'd be looking at the .562 constriction.  I think me and you are of the very same mindset my buddies won't touch my 12 gauge because of how tight the pattern is and now I have switched to a 20 gauge last year I don't know what the best pattern is but I am trying to at least achieve 350 in the 10 at 40 yards I would rather miss a bird clean then fill his breast full of shot have a benelli m2 and just picked up a Retay as well
