I had an issue last season. Discovered it via a wounded turkey.
What I found was one bad box out of about 12 or 13.
Sent them to Winchester and they DID replace them. They didn't reimburse me for my range trips or the one shell from each box that I had to expend to check each box.
From here on out, I'll pattern one shell from each box I buy to be sure they're up to expectation.
I know you shouldn't have to do that but they normally pattern so well that I can't abandon them altogether.

Yeah it sucks, I don't want to risk wounding A bird. I'll probably bite the bullet and start loading my own shells in the future.

My brother in law's gun started opening up using long beards. I talked him into letting me do a true deep clean on it. What I discovered was plastic from the wad cups all the way down the barrel. I cleaned it down to bare metal and put a light coat of tetra gun bore conditioner in the bore. It instantly started shooting again.

Most speak of the impressive patterns from TSS handloads, which is obviously true.  the main reason I went to them was due to factory stuff changing constantly, especially at that time when Hevi shot was the best thing available, they constantly changed their stuff and had major quality control issues at that point.

I load mine one at a time and they are all identical, it shows in the patterns, I actually hadn't shot one on paper in several years until after a miss, I hit a large sapling and new that was the issue but just had to check!

For the amount of those shells they make and sell seems the issues are a small fraction.

Can I ask when was the last time your barrel last deep cleaned? The XR shells leave a lot of residue after just 1 shot fired. I had similar issues with a few box's with patterns changing like yourself I deep cleaned and numbers came back. I do believe they changed  something on that shell be it the primer or the casings the pellets are in they are not as good as when they first hit the shelf's.

I did A deep clean when I put it up after last spring. My first though was maybe I missed some fouling,so I did it again after the pattern changed. No improvement on pattern.

I had the same thought,I deep cleaned and oiled the bore again with no improvement.

Unfortunately , some production ammo has been very inconsistent which is why so many have went to loading their own TSS. I would definitely try the Winchester XX.
