Vortex/Burris red dot adjustments bottoming out…

Recently, in helping a friend sight in/pattern his Franchi Affinity III, came across the issue of the sight on his Vortex Venom running out of travel and the poi still being four inches low at 12 yds.
Called Vortex and they have a wedge shim to fix that, and the longer screws that you need to accommodate that wedge shim.
Apparently this happens on some guns.
So, if any of you run into this problem, there's an easy fix.
For your information, a one degree wedge, which this is, will raise or lower, according to your need and your installation, your poi 60" at 100 yds. That's of course, 30" at 50 yds., 15" at 25 yds., and 7 1/2" at 12 1/2 yds.
Hope this helps somebody lower their aggravation factor by an increment...

I have been told by customers that you can run the vortex all the way up and down a few times and it will free it up..      I have no clue how it does it but alot of folks have said it will fix it.

Yes William...I messaged Vortex and they said the internals can sometimes get hung up (?) and running the elevation and windage full travel both ways would fix that.
They also said, because of receiver differences and mount differences, that the red dots can run out of travel.
Apparently that's what happened with this one.
I've ordered the wedge and longer screws and that should fix the problem.
It's easy after you know all of this but it's wondering and trips to the range without that knowledge...
Oh, and by the way, that mount you make is a beautiful design. Hadn't seen one in person until I started setting up this gun.

^^this is exactly what I did with mine right out of the box when I noticed that it wasn't moving after a few shots with light loads around 15 yards. Ran it all the way up then all the way down, shot and noticed it changed my poi, adjusted it again and it was on at 15 yards then fine tuned it at longer distances.

you can cut a pop can and put under the back also.   We have longer screws also.

We used to shim scopes with pieces of plastic cut from spent shot shells, worked like a charm.

To follow up on the wedge situation?
Wedge solved the problem. Plenty of travel now.

X2. I had one that did that & fixed it by that method. Fixed an old Bushnell rifle scope one time the same way. An old gunsmith gave me that tip many years ago.

Good info to have. Didn't know they made a wedge, that's a great idea.
