Unicoi question

Hey to all you Unicoi veterans out there. I've really wanted to go the last few years but it just hasn't worked out. My wife's birthday is January 13th so that complicates it a little bit. She loves hiking and the mountains so I've been trying to make something out of it for the both of us. She hasn't been interested in my idea until a few days ago and she started asking a few questions about it. At this point I'm sure it's probably tough to find a room. I haven't called the park yet but if it's all booked up do y'all have any suggestions for anywhere else that's close by and do you have any suggestions for something my wife might like to do as far as shopping or hiking and outdoor related stuff. I haven't been researching because I didn't think we would consider going. Walking around and listening to turkey calls would probably be at about the bottom of her list lol. Post below or pm me. Thanks!

Helen is just down the road and is a "Stadt" or German mock town. Very interesting place with decent food and hotel options should the lodge be full. Hiking options in the state park are available. Very pretty area of the country.

Helen is a lady's town. Lots of shopping and various things for them to look at.  If you have young daughters, they could run back a few miles to Cleveland and visit Cabbage Patch Baby General where you can make cabbage patch kids.  And yes, I have been there a few times for my daughter to make a doll.

Thanks for the replies. I do have a daughter whose 11 and I think she has grown past the baby doll stage but that would have been great. It sounds like we could find enough stuff to do for us both to be happy. Now I need to see if she's really serious and get a room booked. I'd love to come swap some turkey hunting stories.

It's the off season for the town, so a lot of shops and stuff will be closed ...

The lodge/ park has a Zip line just outside and around the meeting center she may enjoy sliding around the woods on a cable  :newmascot: :newmascot:

It is off season and a lot of the shops are closed but me and my buddys wives have  found plenty to do. It's a neat little town. Your wife may be different but mine has surprisingly enjoyed the show for a little while each year. This will be our fourth year she didn't get to go last year and was disappointed.

There is plenty enough around the area for someone to do outside the show.

That's encouraging to hear. I think we'll give it a try. Honestly she's a little bitter at me about hunting "too much" (it wasn't really that much) this past spring so anything turkey hunting related gets the stink eye. But I think she's actually pretty open to the idea now. This might help her understand the culture and passion a little bit. And I think we can find some fun things to do.

This is the best place in town to eat supper and they maybe open for lunch Mully's Nacoochee Grill Helen, GA.  Country Inn and Suites is a nice place to stay if you can't get a room at the lodge

I believe Habersham winery is close by as well.  Been several years back when I went so hopefully it's still open...if she's into wine tasting.  Nice little cigar shop right as you enter town also.  Again, not sure if it's still open but they had a nice selection and an area to sit an enjoy a cigar...owner was very nice.  Lots of cabins in the area that may have availability if you're trying to persuade the wife, lol

Couple of taverns right by the river in town for nice scenery, music and drinks.  Hope this helps you get to buy some calls from the best in the business!

Every real turkey hunter needs to go to Unicoi at least once.

Thanks, I wouldn't mind checking out the cigar shop. We're not wine drinkers but that might give us something to do.

Thanks for all the help guys. It's official I have booked a room and my wife and I will be heading that way Thursday the 13th, which is her birthday.  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and the calls!
