Usually carry a minimum of 6.  If I were to get injured or lost and have to spend the night in the woods, I like the thought of having a few extra shells on me.

Or if I stumble across a meth lab on public land...

3 in the gun, 2 in the pockets, rest of the box (sometimes it's empty, sometimes there's 5 left) rides in the truck.

Usually I just stick 3 in the gun when I leave the truck in the morning and that's it. There is a box in the dash or console of the truck all season however, If I blow it and needed more shells. Never needed more than 2 at a time though, and even hooting more than one is extremely rare. (Knocks on wood)

As few as two in the gun and two in my vest and as many as 3 in my gun and 5 in my vest.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.
