Been a very different year for me again, WI canceled the "Learn to Hunt" program again, Youth hunt had 2 morning till 8:00am to hunt on a farm that was never scouted (couldn't find any turkey sign) and the a first season youth the missed at 20yards (I know it happens) his shot ended up at birds feet... guessing he looked over the gun at the bird when he pulled the trigger.
I didn't draw a WI tag until 3rd season... I packed the truck and headed to the U.P. of Michigan for a hunt with a buddy up there. I got in late Thurs. night for a Fri. AM hunt, we woke to rain, wind and then a mix of snow. Never heard a bird gobble on roost, the front broke and a hour in we heard our first gobble, I started calling and had a few others respond, first bird came in from in front and then headed to the right and 3 others were coming from there, a fight ensued and a jake and 2 toms started our way, as they came in the dominant bird was in back and I leveled the scope on his neck and game over!
Been a few years since I have hunted the U.P. but just like old times, always a good hunt with a buddy!
This bird had a Weird Beard, caused back lack of minerals... I think
