Sanding a call after finish and proper order of aplication

How do I sand after I put on I think it is the base coat or is it the first layer of lacquer sand and then more lacquer? How much do I sand? When do I use the no blush? I do not remember my orders, I have had the stuff for a while and have not fished the call. I have already done the main sanding and gone over it with a tac clothe I think it is called, I remember I have to add a coat of something and sand it lightly with 3000 grit sand paper, do I then go over it again with the tac cloth and spay it again? Thank you for any help given.



I did pick up safety gear for using this stuff too.

I am not going to share the name of who answered yet but will, I want his permission but here are his answers, my additional questions and his replies to them.

Him:
No blush is for IF the lacquer turns a milky white hazy color...it happens from too much humidity in the air...i would just sand it smooth .ue your tac cloth to remove the dust...and spray it with the lacquer...multiple light coats..letting it completely dry between coats..if your looking for a nice easy to apply finish..just takes a lot longer ..try Tru-Oil...its very durable to...i only use the precat lacquer on stabilized wood...the stabilized. Wood wont soak in the tru-oil because its stabilized...so it just kind of sits on top of the surface and takes forever to dry...and in that extreme amount of dry time it collects a lot of dust..if you had a dust free clean room i guess it would be ok..but i do not have one of those..lol

I already have this stuff so it is what I will be using, I was just unsure about my order, I have only done one with Polyurethane before. I should do the inside as well correct? If so should I tape the soundboard pedestal and the ledge the slate will sit on or spray the whole thing then after it is dry sand off those parts? No I do not have a dust free room, I do not even have a work room so I am sending the girlfriend and the dog away so I can do this over the weekend. Then I have to get my wingbone put together, that is the one I am very nervous about. Oh with the sanding should I sand between each coat or just the first coat? I have to go get the boss but will use my phone to check on the reply when I get there, thank you very much for the information. I have to pick up a dowel to put the striker head on. Oh I was planing to spin it on a lazy-susan as I apply the finishes, will that be alright?

either or....you can tape it off or sand it...

I dont think you have to sand between coats...but the coat just before your last coat...you can use XXX steel wool to smooth it out...wipe it with your tac rag..then spray the final finish coat..

just do a light sanding with the steel wool..make sure not to go through any of the finish...your just looking to knock down any particles or dust that might have got in the finish..then wipe it down with the tac cloth..then spray your final coat..

 i would not use  steel wool , find a sanding pad, 300 grit will work,use it lightly, wipe /blow of dust and than respray,,,,,,

I believe laquer dissolves into itself so you don't  have to sand between coats.  It's always best to try to spray thin coats. I finished a guitar neck with tru oil and I really like the finish it made.

Thank you, I am finished spraying the first call and have moved on to the second, I have put on 3 coats already and will be adding one more. First call has soundboard waiting to dry and I will be adding the striking surface tonight if all goes well.

Well this was the first one and it turned out better than I thought it would, I feared I had used to much glue. It is a Laminated Maple - Walnut - Yellowheart call with Lasered 3" Cherry Sound Board.


The second one is a Cedar-Walnut-Maple Pot with glass soundboard and purple slate striker surface.

Thank you, I did have one issue with purple slate call, somehow the soundboard moved after I set it to sit for 24 hours. I am told it should not affect it so I hope that is true.

steve,, go to lowes/home depot and get these, they are used for putting title down on the floor,,plastic spacers of whatever size you want,, get the 1/8 inch spacers.. put between the soundboard  and the inner wall of the pot call,, ,, glue and clamp down the soundboard using this spacers, and it will not move on you when drying,,,,,,,,
