Suggestions on a choke tube for a Rem 11-87 compact in 20 ga, using Win LB # 5's

Interested in opinions, on what's the best choke tube, for a Remington 11-87 compact 20 ga.  I'm using Winchester 3" Longbeard XR's, with # 5 shot.  Currently using a Kick's GT in .560.   After patterning, I wouldn't feel comfortable in shooting beyond 35 yards.   Any feeback, would be appreciated.

35 yards with lead and a 20 gauge isn't necessarily a horrible thing. I'm sure others will come in about how they're typing birds at greater distances with the LB ammo in their 20 ga but...

Biggest thing to keep in mind is that you just don't have the payload there like you'll get with the 12 ga. But, if you're just trying to get the most you can out of that load, try an Indian Creek 555. Might also consider switching to the 6's if at all possible. You'll give up a little energy but you'll gain pattern density. Might not be enough to get excited about but, there's no free lunch in any circumstances. Good luck man.

.568 Carlson's longbeard xr or a .570 tighwad from primos are both solid chokes for 20 ga longbeard 5's,I have shot both chokes from numerous 20's with lb 5's,including an 870 youth and a 1187 youth 21"

Will say on the 11-87 20ga with Promos Jellyhead (.570) the pattern was very even. However, do believe I was using #6's.

To the Gentlemen who weighed in;

  Thank you for your responses and opinions.  The suggestion of trying 20 ga LB XR's in #6, is worth noting.  In researching this subject, I learned that someone else had excellent results using 6's.  The problem now, as you aware, is the availability of ammo.  I have plenty of 5's, so will explore the choke suggestions made.

Thanks again,

There's absolutely nothing wrong with 5's. But, with the LB ammo, you're losing a portion of the shot charge due to the weight of the resin. Obviously the 20 ga hull won't hold what a 12 ga hull will hold. That's a given. So, the 6's are often a good compromise in that offering.  If you can get the 5's to shoot, that's definitely the ticket. The added energy will pay better dividends in the end.

X2 on the Carlson. Got one for my niece and she put it on her youth 1187 20 set up and she never looked back. Last spring she shot  24lbs 12 oz tom and shot another one 5 min later 24lbs 8 oz. She loves that set up and she's only 16. Been turkey hunting for 4 yrs and got at least one every yr.  :OGturkeyhead:
We wait all year, why not enjoy the longbeard coming in hunting for a hen, let 'em' in close !!!

Those cheap tight wad chokes shoot really well with most loads.
They do shoot very well,it does not seem to matter which make of gun from my experience either.

The addiction will cost you time and money and alienate those close to you. I can give you the names of a dozen addicts — myself included — whose wives begin to get their hackles up a week before turkey season starts and stay mad until a week after it closes.

Primo"s Tightwad is a good one also might try a Carlson .575

I have an 870 20 gauge compact. I shoot the Remington turkey choke in it. It does a great job.

My wife's Remington likes A tight choke with the lbxr#5&6 she's running A jebbs .550 in hers. I've tried several chokes in it from .570-.565-555&-.550 and the tightest chokes patterned best  for her.

The longbeard#5's patterned good in my sumtoy.562 and rem SF .572 chokes in my 870. I wouldnt push it much past 40 though. Lead shot @1000 fps runs out of steam quick. Biggest downfall with lead #5 in any 20 ga load is pellet count. Only have 215 or so pellets in that load. That said these shells easily outpattern any other lead #5s ive tried in 20 ga.

Remington's generally love the Primos Jellyhead and I would recommend thePatternmaster code black
