Shotgun choke confusion

Hey guys. Sorry if this has been discussed before. With all the different opinions on who makes the best shotgun chokes my question is this, who even makes the chokes? Does each gun company make their own? I know that most car batteries are actually made by only a few companies and that they simply get labeled differently. Is it the same thing for chokes? Again sorry if this is redundant but I need a little help. Thanks.

Many make their own, some are made over seas and possibly most are made in the same place over there but I really do not know.

Most of the high end popular ones are machined here!

Each Major company has their own design and manufacturers their own chokes.

Thats a good question....I dont think any of the gun companies actually make them in house but i cant say for sure. Im local to remington and i know a local machine shop used to make their chokes at one time. Im sure remington and some other companies develop their own chokes, but im sure they just farm them out to the cheapest bidder. Id say most "aftermarket" chokes are made in house though, other than truglo(china), HS undertaker(??), MAD chokes(indian creek at one time) and Primos(trulock).

Sumtoy on here makes them, when i called William to order one, he said he would turn it tomorrow and ship that day! The first question William will ask you is how dead you want them!

I mostly ask because I shoot a Carlson's out of my Mossberg 535 and was told that they make the chokes for Hevi Shot. Now I have a 20 ga SXP that I want to set up  and heard that Winchester isn't making their own chokes so it got me thinking.

You don't even have to call, you can email them and his wife will get back with ASAP.. on whatever choke or mount your looking for and you can paypal or credit card , just however you want to pay...

William "sumtoy "  has chokes specifically made for specific loads and  particular guns shooting that load...some other makers are starting to do the same but generally speaking you will he best served by doing research looking at posts of people with the same gun as you ...looking at the patterns they have posted ...look at the choke x load and go get that combo

Sumtoy and Indian Creek are probably the two most popular tubes for turks.. Many good ones though.

I use a full choke with Hevi-Shot #6's (Actually old Remington HD's which are very similar)...  Just posted on another thread on a similar subject.

I have to wonder, how many guys have missed (or crippled) a bird cause the choke was not tight enough?  Watching YouTube, I have sure seen a lot of birds missed that were well within range.

chokes and batteries are not a good comparison. Lots of companies make there own chokes. like a whole lot. If you are planning or already shooting tungsten. I would go with a multistaged choke. Jebs, Indian creek , or sumtoy are examples of them. With that I prefer sumtoy.

Carlson's are made in Atwood, a rural town in northwest Kansas. (I grew up about 40 minutes from there) They have been pretty easy to deal with in the past and seem to stand behind their products. They make a lot of different chokes, but my chokes from them are all extended chokes for waterfowl and upland. I've never compared them to the regular names mentioned here though
