I don't mind a bit starting at 1.25. Minimal waste. Starting at 1.5" is a waste of time and material for me .   Some calls I build I can start out at 7/8

I can do fine with 1.1/4" to much waste  using anything bigger,  I've personally haven't had any trouble!
