Think about what trail cameras have done for scouting, especially for deer hunters. Now we can get real time images sent to our phones.  Not many deer hunters talk about going and looking for a "big track" anymore, do they?

It won't be long before remote, bio-acoustical recording devices are marketed to the masses of hunters. They are already available for other uses. Surveillance of course and but even hardcore bird watching. With the advances in software technology that can search for and filter sounds, you'll know not only when turkeys are gobbling good, but where. Might even be able to tell one gobbler from another. With several devices, you'll probably be able to map gobblers' movements.

Always looking for an edge, hunters will buy them. Will you?

Nope. Same reason I won't use a cellular trail camera. Starts to cross the line of fair chase. Cellular cameras are already banned (normally seasonal bans) in numerous western states and are currently on the chopping block in Utah and Wyoming. You will start seeing them banned in more states in the future.

But given today's instant success/gratification culture, folks would buy the acoustical devices like crazy to help them get that bird to post on The Gram.

Never!  There are certain parts of the turkey hunting process that are just as important to me as that moment the trigger is pulled.  Having the knowledge and skills to find birds to hunt without the aid of technology is one of them.  When I reach the point I have to rely on techno-gimmicks and other gadgetry to kill a gobbler, that will be the day I quit hunting them.   ::)

Not over my dead body. Sport hunting is supposed to be sporting, giving animals a sporting chance. Not supposed to be unfairly swaying the odds in our behavior like trail cams and baiting do. It's a sin someone would even consider it. Many people not against it for us are against certain things that attempt to sway odds in our favor. How many guys won't/don't deer hunt until their camera says game is coming consistently at 4:00? They want almost a guarantee. Not the way hunting is supposed to be. So much is missed from the experience when we remove ourselves from the equation. That's one of the best things about turkey season, there's less chance we need to be uninvolved to succeed.

To the first two posters, I get so offended  in a sense when guys talk like this I didn't even read your answers. God bless both of you and thank God some sportsman still exist

Arkansas is now trying to make trail cams illegal because they feel they are giving hunters an unfair advantage. I can see the same happening with this type of equipment. I would like to see us all back on the same playing field, then I would not have to hear all these people telling me I can't take any deer I want and that I have to wait for them to have some many antlers on each side. This is part of why I feel TV has ruined hunting, everybody wants to be like the hotshot star they envy. That and maybe we can get rid of these idiots that take 100 yard shots with crossbows because they saw somebody on TV do it. Got in an argument with one of them the last day of bow season at the state park, he was bragging he shoots at 100 yards at home all the time. I tried to make him understand that it nothing like shooting in the woods when your heart is pounding and therefor you are shaking, how a limb that could deflect your bolt is much harder to see at that distance and how a deer can jump a sting and not be there at 30 yards so think about how much more time it has to jump your string at 100. Did not sink it and it never does with most of the cross bowers I try to talk to.

Absolutely not.  At some point a distinct line will need to be drawn on the limits of technology in hunting.  I know many states differ, but even the direct use of drones, remote control decoys, remote control calls, etc. have no place in hunting, in my opinion.  Many of these cameras and the capability of gps are technology are pushing the limits as is.  It's like in current politics, at some point it will take voices of opposition to stop some of the foolishness that is detrimental to the resource.  I don't buy into much of the "well, if it's legal" argument.

Trail cameras can be handy against trespassers.

Tail Feathers

I would rather not carry anything battery powered into the woods to hunt, but aging eyes and bifocals pretty much force me to use a red dot.
I don't want to use "gobble cams" or battery powered dekes.  That seems to take the sport of it to me.
Love to hunt the King of Spring!

No way. I don't even use trail cameras. Its sickening that technology has come so far that, in time everyone is supposed to accept it. What took some of us year's to learn about this great sport will one day be forgotten because of technology. I'll hunt old school till I die
