I recently got into the TSS I was going to give apex a try but they didn't have any 20 gauge available at the time so I went with a local company close to me Nitro shell company I personally don't know anyone that shoots them what is the good the bad and the ugly from others experience I was informed they have some horror stories and now I might be regretting my choice

This is my first year shooting TSS and after talking to some people that I trust and reading some reviews I went with Apex. It seems that a little while back Nitro was having some issues with what they were putting in their shells (pixie dust), some overpressure issues and customer service. They may have corrected these problems but you know how sometimes it takes some time to have your reputation restored especially when things are put on the internet about them. Maybe someone else on here that is currently using Nitro or has in the past can give you a better answer. Hopefully these issues were addressed and your shells shoot excellent. Plus competition between companies is good for the consumer.

Not sure if this matters to you or not but being I am military Apex offers a 15% discount on every purchase I make. They also give this discount to military veterans, retirees, first responders and first responder retirees.

Best of luck this year and stu safe.

Yeah I hear that I went with them mostly because it's a local business and I try to support local companies and I know they hand load each shell like apex does and so far my customer service has been great they called me and told me my shells was ready and I could pick them up anytime also I got a discount for cash so I thought that was awesome I hope they do preform well I will be patterning them in 2 weeks so fingers crossed no issues makes me kinds worried tho

well crap then I am sitting on $100 bucks and 13 shells I would feel bad calling them and telling them I don't want them now

DBuck90

I have not paid or picked up the shells yet I wouldn't feel right after ordering them and then not buying them what do y'all suggest give them a call and just ask some questions about my concerns see if they are still have high pressure issues if they have resolved previous problems

Bowguy

If you didn't pay what would be big deal changing your mind? He may have corrected pressure issues. Who knows. If you were my brother I know what I'd say

Nitro seems to have some quality control issues as well as poor customer service.  I have seen it first had with a couple guys I know that purchased loads.

Buffer leaking out, crimps coming un done and inconsistent performance.  Looked at them for years and never bought any, glad I roll my own now!

Couple years ago, probably 2018, I bought some Fed TSS #9 to try in my Ithaca Turkeyslayer  20ga. Got the best pattern I had ever gotten from that gun to that point - 200 in 10" @ 40. But they were too hot in pressure and locked the action and I had to use the action release to cycle the action. I fired one shell to pattern and check the zero when it locked the action. I wrongly attributed the lock to the action needing cleaning and lubricating which I did. Next shell locked the action and cost me a bird so I shelved them and went back to the Fed HWT 15g/cc #7 shells.

Since the Fed HWT #7s are now unattianium, I had to revisit the TSS shells again. A buddy traded me some Nitros 7.5&9 blend and #9 shell to try. I also bought some Browning #7 & #9 blends (straight #9 were out of stock). Patterned the Nitros and they cycle fine in my M37 and patterned great. The Browning TSS pattern and cycle good too.

All that to say I don't know if I had a bad batch of the Fed TSS or what but the Nitros aren't as hot in pressure, if that's an issue now, as those Fed TSS shells were with the same gun and choke. If there was any issue with Nitros at some point looks like they have corrected it so personally I'll use the Nitros without worry.

Thanks for the comment that is reassuring I think I am going to stand behind my word and pay them for their time and good customer service the provided and find out what they do I will also be calling them Monday asking about the issues I have seen from others comments and see if they are honest about it and yes they have resolved that you could do 100 things correct and mess up one time and people never forget

Understand, it's not a one time event. It was about every time for at least the two guys that had the shells sticking in barrel, they stopped using em right quick, the fellow that blew the chokes out had it happen twice as well. Maybe that's how you view one but to me that's sorta at the time a consistent problem. Who paid for barrel on the gun either of the times? Not the fellow making the shells imo they guy was insane for trying it again. Best of luck

When did this occur?  Last week with shells they just received from Nitro or several years ago? Did it occur over several years and several orders? What were the conditions at the time? 90 degree plus and the shells just out of the truck after sitting on the dash in the sun? What choke constriction? Was the issues with Hevishot or TSS shells?

Not disputing it happened as I recall seeing it in a forum several years ago when TSS was starting to become popular among reloaders.  But these are relevant questions. They very well may have had issues, every manufacturer does, that they have since corrected at least with the shells I have.
