Rusty brake lines and rugged mountainous back roads don't mix!

Here's how I know. My truck broke down 20 miles into the Bradshaw Mountains in AZ ????. Checked everything before I left on the trip and everything looked good. Couldn't see above the fuel tank and of course it was rusted up there and started leaking. Anyway the only option was to walk out 20 miles over a 2000 ft incline at the pass about half way. 13 hours later I made it to town and began the process of digging up parts and getting back in to the truck. With parts in hand that I argued with the guy at O'Reily for about 15 mins about whether or not the fittings are the right size because the previous 4 guys I talked to said the weren't sure what the fitting size was because makes are different and even different from year to year. So after getting a ride to the top of a closer peak and walking 4 miles back in luckily down hill most of the way, finding out that the fittings were not the right size. I broke the rear brake line and crimped them with a vice grips. 9 hours under that dang truck messing with brake lines and finally get it to where I can limp it out in low 4wd. Finally get out and get some much needed sleep about 5am weds mourn. Total time of ordeal 36 hours. One black one blue toenail, 3 blisters, cramped calves and countless body aches. Now sitting here at the auto repair shop hoping they can get new brake line in so I can head home today.

But did you see any birds?!? In all seriousness, that flat sucks! And I'm sorry you had to deal with the headache.

No in there for 4 days doing some metal detecting and getting familiar with the area. Didn't spend to much time in the pines and didn't see or hear anything.

I'm not making light of your experience because it sounds like it sucked.  Look on the bright side you have some good stories to tell in the future!  Good and Bad memories of the experience!

Jeez that's pretty rough.

Couple years ago, a buddy of mine had a hub blow out on his truck about 2/3 way through a 7 hour drive home. I met up and gave him a ride to the auto parts store to get some parts.

Long story short while messing with his wheel, the rubber brake like going to the caliper broke in two. He crimped the rubber line with a pair of vice grips and duct taped the vice grips to the shock. Made it home just fine.

The flat was the easy part of the climb. Getting up to it is a bear. At least the guys at the Auto repair shop were extremely helpful. Got me in the next day for full brake line replacement. After all the moving of the lines trying to get back 2 crimped the fronts I'm sure were compromised as well. Any how the mechanic working on it stayed past hours to finish and get me on the road. At the risk of breaking advertising rules I'm going to give their name and highly recommend them if your in the area and need help. Action Automotive in Prescott. I hope the mods understand as these guys were extremely helpful.
