Going tomorrow to pattern my SX4 12 Gauge with an Indian Creek .665, shooting Apex #9 3inch.  I'm using a Burris FF3.  My question is what's the best way to pattern without blowing though a bunch of TSS shells.  Should I get on paper at 20 and 40 and then try adjusting with Apex?

Any advice is appreciated.

Use much cheaper lead loads first to get the sight in. I would get it as close as possible before trying the apex .

Gobble!

Start with a LARGE target at 10 yards with the cheapest shells you can find.

I hunted for many years, prob over 30 w a bead. I'm gonna relay something to you that may be important info. I eventually wanted a red dot. I got sorta close with sight and cheap loads. Than back to 40. All looked awesome. Made a couple adjustments and felt great. Got a really close shot, idk maybe 7 yards. I whiffed. That night I patterned at 7 yards benched to take "me" out of it. A neat very tight pattern was just to the side of where I was aiming. Check close it's important, you need to be on there

The addiction will cost you time and money and alienate those close to you. I can give you the names of a dozen addicts — myself included — whose wives begin to get their hackles up a week before turkey season starts and stay mad until a week after it closes.
