Central PA 2021
« on: February 23, 2021, 10:01:52 AM »
Winter sightings have been scarce this year, but we've had a lot of snow. Right now where I'm at we have about 10-12 inches on the ground. I did see 2 long beards chasing each other in circles just off the side of the road. I sat and watched them until a car came and they didn't seem to care I was there. Can't wait for them to start.

????
Thinking about coming up there this year again.
The addiction will cost you time and money and alienate those close to you. I can give you the names of a dozen addicts — myself included — whose wives begin to get their hackles up a week before turkey season starts and stay mad until a week after it closes.

1st time out this year
Went out to my patio to have a listen to the mountain across the road
6:00 am - Already breaking day and with the 4 inches of snow left on the ground, I should have been out earlier. 48 degrees, mostly clear and very slight breeze. Not a Peep. Just a few crows and "tweety" birds.
7:00 am - Went back in for a coffee refill. Try again, but get out earlier, in case there is a gobble or 2.
Nice morning though, saw a couple of deer.

Went outback on the 10th and 11th.
Nothing to report as of 7:00am each morning.
Although I thought I might have heard 1 very far away on the 10th.
Probably just my imagination.....lol

Nothing to report today again. But sure was cold.
Windy, but started to die down at daybreak.
Kept myself occupied by watching 9 deer, then a little later 6 deer.

Birds are going crazy here in western PA.   I heard maybe 20 gobbles this morning and seen maybe 4 longbeards in full strut.  But hey, we have to wait until May 1st in the great state of PA ???

I have yet to hear any gobbling over on the mountain where I know there are at least a couple. Come on birds, give me break.

Cold , clear and calm.
Finally heard 2 behind the house, but it wasn't until 7:20.
Only a couple gobbles and done.
Unbelievably not a peep from the mountain side.
Maybe I've been going in for my 2nd cup of coffee too early.................lol.

Went out to my usual hunting property. Wouldn't you know it.....started to rain just before 1st light.
Didn't hear anything until the 3rd spot I checked at about 8:30
3 Gobbling away, so I left them alone.
At least some birds are there.
