Best Rain Gear?

Do I need to go with the new "high speed" gear such as Kuiu for good rain gear? Here is what I want. I Alex a Midwest hunter so we deal with wet elements at least once or twice in a hunting season. I would like to get a full rain set that I wear as my primary outer layer unless really hot of course. Then I can layer with whatever I want below but I need a good set of rain gear that's mossy oak but if I have to I can go Kuiu. I have one of their day packs I use every hunt and it really is good.

You won't like my suggestion, but it has kept me dry for many  hunts. I wear a full set of Helly Hansen commercial fishing gear in army green. I will then wear a camo jacket and vest over it. It's the slick rubber like material and hot, but by golly you'll be dry. Don't worry about the bibs not being camo., they blend well and I  have killed many birds wearing them. Actually Tractor Supply now carries a cheaper and lighter version. My next choice for light rain and light weight is frogg toggs, but they wear out quicker, the HH will last you many years.

I have a set of GI issue gore Tex woodland camo and desert camo that I have not been wet yet the jackets were 100% brand new and the pants I got at an army surplus store going out of business that looked brand new and I didn't find any signs of wear. I also have a poncho that I carry all the time just in case I purchased from FireForce that has been awesome I'm 5' 7" so not much gets wet in poncho. A friend of mine is Sitka all the way and believes in it.

I use a military surplus poncho.  It keep me and my vest dry, along with my gun if I pull it in tight.
Not the lightest when packed but I haven't found anything better for me yet.

I bought a set of the Kuiu Chugach for turkey and elk hunting. It is definitely made for active wear, not sitting in a treestand. Light and compact so I can roll the pieces together and store in the back of my vest if I need to. It is sized where you can fit other clothing underneath, so i didn't have to size up. Not hot like other pieces of rain gear I've tried. I have no issues wearing the set and pounding ground. Pretty durable too, only barbwire has harmed it so far. I about cried when I tripped over that old barbwire in the dark and ripped a couple small holes in the pants. But I bought some Tenacious Tape and fixed em easily. Only downside is the price, but you get what you pay for. Another benefit... I feel guilty if I don't hunt in the rain now after making the purchase.

This is the best rain gear, a sunny day. I use BROWNING packable rain gear in bottomland camo. I do not know if it is still available, but it is Goretex, and I never get wet using it. Good luck, lets pray for a dry nice spring. Be safe...

I have Cabela's MTO50 in the packable rain gear, and I have some Sitka CloudBurst that's awesome! Both are Gore-Tex.
