Slate or Glass
« on: October 07, 2020, 07:10:46 PM »
I am looking to build a second Sycamore pot call to match the other one that I made and was wondering what would be the better soundboard for a crystal surface, slate or glass? I am thinking I may also incorporate a feather from my first turkey in the call.

Thanks bud, is there a reason?

I like the tone of it better. The crystal/glass combo will be clearer and higher pitched.

Depends on the sound you want...to me glass is goin to give you a louder higher pitch with a crosp pop and hard break...generaly slate will mellow it out just a touch...but alot depends on how the call is built

I second what muddpuppi said.
If I was looking for a “rule of thumb”, it would be a harder sound board with a softer calling surface and vice versa.

By no means am I saying that is a concrete rule, but a general starting point.

Thank you both gentlemen. Kinda half thinking of going with slate to hide any gluing mistakes I may make, that way I don't have to worry about 2 bad glue jobs showing if I mess up.
