I had a run in with one of those big white dogs last year and the thought of disturbed turkeys was the last thing on my mind.
I had killed a bird on the Missouri Opener and my kid had killed a bird during the youth hunt so we were both ineligible to take another bird until the second week. I opted to scout out a fairly new property to me the first Tuesday of the season.....without a gun.
I was saved by a multi flora rose bush on his first charge. Let's just say it is rather unsettling to be attacked in the dark by a large, assumed to be wild critter. It wasn't until he started circling the multi flora rose I was using as a shield and I could catch glimpses of white in the dark as he circled and growled that I figured out what it was.
Turns out the dog did not belong to the farmer and the farmer didn't want him on his place.....which I would have likely taken care of for him if I had had a gun.
