I live in North Louisiana... I love it here, but probably wouldn't be my first choice for you and the wife.  I would say TN area would be good.  It depends exactly what you are looking for.  I'm not sure where you are from, but if you haven't been in the south with a humid, muggy, gulf influenced 100 degree afternoon, you are in for a treat!  I would learn how to speak redneck southern slang, and you will fit in just fine.  Sorry to hear about your job, and good luck on your decision.

Top that off with the greater number of venomous snakes and spiders, I'll stay right where I am. Lol.

Look at Lexington KY. There are several major hospitals in this area and there's a Toyota plant that just added another line making Lexus's. Several neighbors are transplants from up north that moved here for jobs.

Hey guys, thanks for all the advice. We still haven't decided where we may want to go. It's only been a couple weeks since I lost my job and we have been applying all over. Just waiting for the majority of them to close their application process and hopefully then the phone will be ringing. I am sure then we might have a better idea of where we might be heading. I will say that I wouldn't mind moving Deep South but my wife and daughters say NO because of the spiders...lol.

Having lived in Georgia all my life, I can't see myself ever leaving but if I did, I would consider north Alabama. Great hunting, fishing and easy access to a lot of other states.

The suggestion about fitting in is a good one. I live in an area that has been absolutely flooded with transplants over the last 20 years, those that show up like pompous jacklegs get treated that way, those that show up with respect get respect in return.

You can always look at Georgia, but just so you know, we have almost filled our quota of "move ins"

My advice is stay away from Florida. It sucks. Overcrowded, poor public hunting opportunities, EXPENSIVE private hunting opportunities, mosquitoes, heat, hurricanes, crime and you'd better be able to speak Spanish. Once I retire I'll be finding a state to move to.

I thought I would throw this out there, have you thought about the Raleigh-Durham NC area.  Plenty of pharmaceutical, drug manufactures in the area for you and the wife would have her pick of quality area hospitals/doctors.

Agreed.  Georgia is filling up way too fast.  At a rate that cannot be described.  Unless you go to South GA below Macon.  Which is also below the gnat line.  I've been in GA for twenty years and I keep moving farther away from people.  There are more jerks here than anywhere now.  No offense to jerks.  Ha.

Yeah, we do have several hospitals, universities, and drug companies in this area, though there are more than a few spiders.  This is a great place to live, but it is getting crowded from what it used to be.  There's turkeys out away from the metropolitan areas, there are almost too many deer, we have pretty good fishing from mountains to the coast.

Roanoke, VA in my opinion.  Great place for families, lots of outdoor opportunities and the medical field is surging right now.  Virginia Tech and Carilion have a medical college here as well.  There's enough turkeys here that I would be willing to share them with you

I wanted to warn you that there aren't nearly enough turkeys here in North Carolina, so you might ought to look at moving to Tennessee, Virginia, or South Carolina instead.

There are plenty of Turkeys in Virginia. Before you make a decision look at the Roanoke valley. Millions of acres of public land and relatively easy access to private. Fishing is awesome at Smith Mountain lake (think strippers, bass) great rivers to fish. Temperate climate but with the four seasons.
