I'll disagree. The old worked better for my eyes. The reason I say this is a couple of years back my boy was wearing my old pair of bottomland pants from like 20 years and 80 lbs ago, and a new bottomland shirt, and from every distance 10 yards and farther the old pattern would do a better job than the new. I had him walk around and stop in different positions at different distances several times and I would watch him just to verify this and each time the old blended better than the new. Now I think the new looks better to the eyes but not in nature.
I agree 100%
The old bottomland had the perfect amount of contrast throughout the pattern to stay light at a distance and still break up your outline. The new bottomland is too dark and blended, at 20 yards it just looks dark brown. Don't get me wrong, new bottomland is still better than a lot of whats out there, but give me the original any day. It's amazing how well that stuff blends in.
Toxey learned pretty quick that if he was going to compete on a national level with Realtree, he had to sell the camo to hunters not their game and was thus forced to start throwing in more and more details especially when computer generated camo became the new wave in the late 90's.
I'm glad they understood the success of their original patterns in the woods and have continued to offer them, even if only in limited quantities.
