Recommendations on a lab breeder

For those who also waterfowl/upland hunt with their lab, do you have any recommendations on a lab breeder in or around NY?  Last month I lost my best hunting buddy Gunner.  He was a 14 year old black lab hunting machine.  He could do it all.  I miss him a ton.  I didn't even know if and when I would want another dog, but with the amount I bird hunt I can't see not having another dog.  I have searched online and have been in contact with a couple, but looking for more options.

There are so many now its very hard to sort them out.  If I were you, I'd make a list of your needs, wants and don't wants in a dog, and do a thorough search of all breeders.  Seems every breeder focuses on certain traits, so it should be fairly easy to sort them out.

Some want high drive, some want a more controlled dog.  Some want ugly dogs, some want chocolate labs . 

Be warned though, if you're not prepared to spend 700 to a grand, you might want to keep your eye out for local litters.  Some of my best dogs were just hunting stock parents found in the local newspaper.

Whatever you do, make sure its a pup that you want to buy long before you ever go visit them, because you won't leave without a puppy after you go look at them.  There isn't much cuter in the world than a lab puppy.
