I just name them after the fact.... After I get up and see him running away "You dumb son of a ...." why didn't you wait a few more minutes.

I hunted a bird for four seasons. I nicknamed him Einstein because he always out smarted me. He would gobble his head off, but when you made a call to him he would go the opposite way. I had him close 2008 and in 2009. I studdied his every move, and finally in 2010, I outsmarted ol Einstein by ambush. He is my biggest bird to date and my most memorable. He weighed just shy of 22 pounds, 10.5" paintbrush beard,  1 3/8" spurs, and the biggest head I have ever seen on a turkey. He is mounted on a pedestal in my home now.

I can't say them on here!!!

Yeah. Most of my nicknames start after a few trips back to the truck empty handed.

Years ago I hunted two field birds that always gave me the slip. Didn't matter which side of their roost i set up on, whether i used decoys or none, whether I called alot or a little, I couldn't get these birds under 75yds or so.  The way they earned their name was they would leave their hens and walk off together, spinning and strutting and gobbling etc. I finally named them Sigfried and Roy cuz they were a lil gay acting and they put on a pretty good show.  ;D

My Brother and I have an encounter the last two years with 2 birds always together and always seemed a step ahead of us. They seemed to be a tag team and we both always liked the Road Warriors in wrestling so we named these 2 toms the Rope Warriors as they both sported nice beards.

Only one...

Last year I named one "lucky". I missed him at about 25yds and shot off the tips of his tail feathers right above his head....a few days later in the same field he gets 5-10 steps out of gun range and a group of jakes run him off, the next day(last day of the season) I had him roosted and he came in alone  and my reddot malfunctioned.

I just determined that some turkey aren't suppose to be killed. He was in the same field every day and you could about set your watch by him. He should have been dead several times and was just "lucky".

If it eats I can catch it, if it bleeds I can kill it.

My first turkey I named Flinthill Monarch. He was a old hernit gobbler that lived on Flinthill Mountain. I had a few encounters with him before I got him. I had him mounted flying. I mounted him in that postion because that is the way he looked has he was flying away from me on my first encounter with him.

Old Country Boy....   I think the bird is pushing 5 yrs old now...  Haven't seen him yet, but getting ready to put out the trail cam (About a month away from season opener here in WI).

I have always heard it was bad luck to name a living a living gobbler so I wait till after the feathers fly.
