Thinking of buying a Compound Bow

I agree.  I went to one bow shop and felt like they pushed me into the Matthews Z9 'this is the bow for you with your draw length'.  So when I asked to shoot it they told me they were busy with a shoot that day and I would have to 'come back some other time'.  Dang, ready to drop a G and they can't make room for me for 5 to 10 minutes.  Anyway, more then a few people mentioned a bow shop about 40 minutes a way.  I was a bit apprehensive.  Man, that shop was Mom and Pop, had all kinds of bows, said no problem, pulled about 5 or 6 bows off the shelf and set them up for me.

Well, I went with the Fred Bear Mauler Ready to Hunt package and am very pleased for the price and what I got.  I'm not a big bow guy but like others said when I shot it I knew it felt right for me.  I asked the guy what is the difference between mine and the Z9.  He asked me if I noticed a $300 difference.  Two different shops and two totally different end of the spectrum on quality experience.

all good advice.  I  have been to the local store and shot several bows that they had, and as one said they tend to steer you toward the High Dollar bows, as they are paid commision.  I went to another store Just a ma and pop type store and shot one of these PSE's dream season evo.  The other big store didn't even offer this bow in there PSE lineup.  I liked how it shot but still had a hefty price tag on it @ $829 and that was just for the bow.  The accessories were extra.  So I called my Brother in law down in Louisiana who has a buddy that deals in bows.  He has a brand new dream season evo bow completly outfitted and ready to shoot. He said if I wanted it he would sell it to me for $400.  He had ordered it for someone and they never came and got it.  He said his loss my gain.  Seems like a no brainer to me.  But was looking for some other input or if anyone has had issues with this particular model.

Sounds like a steal! I'd give the Evo a try for that $$!!

I have been shooting Hoyt's for the last 10-11 years.  Good combination of speed, forgiveness and most importantly-quiet.  I would say with the quality of today's bows you just need to find the bow that "feels" best to you.  Good luck and keep your shaft straight!

Been said many times here... shoot a bunch of bows and narrow it down by what FEELS good to you. Then go for a deal from that group. You will be much happier.

Well after all my shooting, and handling of different bows I made my decision today.  I purchased the PSE Bow Madness XS.  It felt the best to me and it is extra short for hunting in my ground blind.  The one place let me shoot several of the bows while sitting on my hunting stool to see what would work best for me.  Thanks for all the input, now I only got to wait till October to chase those bucks.

I shot one of those last year.  I thought it handled very well.  The one I shot was very quiet and fast.  It is lightweight and easy to maneuver being so short.  I hope it works out well for you.  Be sure to post pictures when you put the smack on the deer.
