Granted, for an international trip I could see the need for purchasing supplemental insurance if your U.S. insurance policy would not cover some things associated with an out-of-the-country trip. I have done that a couple of times going into Mexico. But what kind of insurance could you possibly need within the U.S.?
Quote from: Rapscallion Vermilion on December 06, 2018, 09:43:44 AMI've used travel insurance for fishing trips to camps or lodges in remote places to cover nonrefundable deposits and air fares due or purchased well in advance of the trip. The InsureMyTrip website is the one I've used to pick out a policy. You only insure the non-refundable costs associated with the trip. I think it has come out to be around 5% of those costs and usually includes varying amounts of additional coverage for things like medical emergencies, weather delays, and lost luggage. The earlier you buy it generally the better the deal and if you buy it within some specified short period like 14 days after your initial deposit you have additional coverage against pre-existing conditions. I haven't had to make a claim, but I know several people that have due to injury or severe illness of a family member. Thanks for the information, I'll look into this website.
