The larger blades on a fixed blade broad head give you more room for error. If you miss by 1/2 inch with an expandable, you miss. If you miss by 1/2 inch with large fixed blades you still might get your bird.

Would think expandable would be dicey on a head shot. Would pretty well have to hit dead center to reliably open the the blades. Don't have to worry about that with fixed blades. They make special heads for head shots but I don't know if they would fly accurately out of a crossbow or not.
