My state's the opposite.  We have too many deer.  You get 4 doe tags with your license, and you have to buy a buck tag.

That's the way it SHOULD be done in PA..............

4 doe tags per license might be too many for PA.  But two would be dandy !!  Would like to see a filled doe tag be a requirement for buying a buck tag
PA elitist since 1979

The good Lord ain't made a gobbler I can't kill.  I just gotta be there at the right time.....  on the day he wants to die.

I'm betting there are hunters in PA that would argue that point. I've talked to several that said they'd see lots of deer prior to the whole QDMA thing kicked in and PA pushed for larger doe harvests while letting the younger bucks go. Now, I'm going to say up front that I'm not an antler hunter. WV allowed (and still does in some places) a very liberal doe season/killing period. It was pushed entirely too far IMHO. They'd look at places in the state that had high deer density and base the regulations from that small piece of Intel. They didn't factor in the regions of the state with harsh winters and higher predator populations. Back home, right now, you'd be lucky to see 20 the first week of rifle season. By the second week, those sightings would drop off drastically. This was not the case 8 years ago but they allowed a heavy harvest in light of 3 very rough winter periods and such. Eye finally realized the damage they've done but it took them about 2 years too long.

QDMA will not work in every state and the big wig's have even spoken up and said it didn't work in all parts of PA like they thought it would. I'm betting it had something to do with reasons mentioned above. Personally, I'd rather see someone shoot a lesser buck and let a doe walk in regions where deer density is low. The antler game has all but taken the fun and enjoyment from the game for me anyway. Getting tired of hearing about how a small Buck is worthless and such. I don't care if someone wants to hold out for a larger deer. That's your option. Just don't cram it down my throat like its the gospel.

P.S. This wasn't geared at anyone in particular. Just some insight and OPINION

Have to apply in New York as well, the only two states i have deer hunted in, NY however is nice you get them while getting your hunting license, so you walk out knowing what you have.
Or you don't get them (non-select) immediately and your $10 is NOT refunded. Extortion no?

I bought my Lifetime many years ago and luckily I am grandfathered in and do not pay the fee for doe tags. Also being from the island we have unlimited doe tags and can shoot a deer a day if we wanted to.

My home county here is unlimited does. The WMA here rewards preference points for does killed in the quota hunt. I remember one night in college a buddy and I whacked 4 apiece while bow hunting together. We would have shot more but we ran out of arrows.
