Hey Guys,I  know this been talk about a lot, but I just want to purchase one choke.I have an Moss. 835 ulti mag with an 24 in. barrel. It is about 12 years old . I shoot the 3 1/2  no. 5 win. ext. range shells in it .I may shoot the no.6 with the new choke.I have heard a lot  about the INDIAN CREEK ,T G SSX ,PURE GOLD AND THE STAR DOT CHOKE.If  you was going to buy just one choke, which  one and why? :-\

A number of shooters/hunters have chokes that have worked well for them in their guns and that is what they will recommend. I try to shoot them all and believe that I have, at least the available commercially made ones, in the exit diameters offered for sale to the general public.

The best thing that I've found that you can do, easily and inexpensively, to improve the performance of your 835 is to "deep clean" the bore. It will allow you to remove any gunk that may have accumulated there (it even helps new guns out of the box) and allow you to really examine the condition of the barrel.

If I had to purchase one choke for your gun, it would be the SSX. It has unique internal geometry that just works very well with that gun to deliver dense/even patterns consistently. Like most chokes, it does better with #6 shot than with #5 but the #5s will work just fine.

I hope that helps.

Thanks,
Clark

P.S. If you're not familiar with the "deep cleaning" process, you can click on the allaboutshooting banner below and then go to the article "Cleaning a Shotgun Barrel" to find the guidelines.

I will admit from the chokes that I tried out of the ones you mentioned that are currently available on the current market with the loads that I shot through them for the money I would tell you best choke would be the TruGlo SSX .670.  That choke for the money truly surprised me how it shot consistently in my 835. Now I never did shoot 6's, but I have no doubt what Clark said above to be very true.  You just will have to look long and hard to find another choke in my opinion to shoot better in the 835.  And that's counting the chokes that are double the price.
