No matter how much experience someone has, there are always circumstances that come into play that can makes things harder we think they should be...or expect them to be.  When that happens, the only thing to do is to keep at it and not give up. Those "last minute" birds are some of the most satisfying.

A couple of friends and I are contemplating plans to come up to Montana next spring.  Your tick comment kind of surprises me.  I wouldn't have thought they would be a problem up there.

I do like that you are seeing a lot of jakes, though.  If we make it up there, I am hoping those jakes have turned into a bunch of clueless two-year-olds. 

I had a really nice gobbler come close,but cows were nearby dang it.Then 4 toms busted me!!

Through the years persistence has killed a lot of birds for me. Keep going until you can't... Good luck!

Had a Jake come in late on the l ast day.Let him go.No worries, fall season is out there.

HPD, my experience has been that if you are only calling in and or seeing jakes.... YOU ARE NOT HIDDEN ENOUGH!

Yes there are ticks,yes there are jakes,public gets hunted hard.Lots of out of state hunters.I still enjoy it.

Quick update: I did not get a gobbler this spring. My cousin got his first bird,so that was great.I got a lot of scouting in, and in fall I will be out there if the crick don't rise.
